ABOUT
Nick Müller, SOC & JAS on set. Photo by Jon Chema, DoP.
Joseph “JAS” Soria is a first-generation cameraman & Peruvian American with a passion for visual storytelling. Born to a photojournalist father and an architect mother from Lima, Peru, his parents emigrated to the US with little more than “the shirts on their backs and a Bible in hand.”
Though faced with early setbacks —being rejected from his dream film school— his determination led him to working his way onto film sets, and within months, secured his first Union feature. From there, he honed his craft under the mentorship of top Los Angeles camera crews in both commercials and feature films, eventually specializing as a Focus Puller.
Today, JAS thrives in the role of 1st Assistant Camera, where he combines his technical expertise with a passion for leadership and organization. Always striving for improvement, he is dedicated to mastering his craft as both a Camera Technician and a team leader.
Outside of work, he enjoys traveling with his wife, Christa, perfecting espresso shots on his Rancilio machine, and experimenting with creating his favorite cocktails at home.
Based in Los Angeles, California.
